Tableau vs Qlikview

Best Answer:

Both, QlikView and Tableau are fabulous tools, which are changing the way BI used to happen traditionally. Both have their own pros and cons. Let me provide my perspective on it:

Benefits / Pros for both the tools:

1. Fast implementation – typically it takes only 2 – 3 months to deploy a dashboard on any of these tools.
2. Good community in the making – Both Qlik & Tableau have decent community size
3. Both come with a good set of visualizations and story-telling features

QlikView Pros:

1. Easy to learn for basic usage. No coding required to create simple dashboards.
2. Provides a personal edition free – so you don’t need to buy one to learn or in case you are a small Organization
3. The relatively low cost compared to Tableau
4. QlikView’s association based filtering is very intuitive to use and something you get used to very quickly
5. Very efficient data storage (QVD formats) and capability to perform data warehousing within the tool.

Tableau Pros:

1. No coding required at all. The entire interface is drag and drop
2. Can create Geo-spatial dashboards with a lot of ease. If you provide name of city and country – it will pick up latitude and longitude itself.
3. Integration with R – Tableau can connect with R easily and you can run your models and monitoring from Tableau directly
4. More connectors, e.g. Google Analytics

However, Tableau requires data warehouse to be present in the Organization (except for small scale clients)

So the bottom line is that you are in good shape, if you become an expert in any of them. Both of them fall in the leaders quadrant in Gartner reports and are leading the changes in BI industry. The choice for an Organization depends on a lot of factos liks budgets, presence of data warehouse etc.
